Community Economic Development Awards
(CEDA)
The CEDA program is
designed to recognize outstanding communities in the
Commonwealth for their efforts in advancing the economic
viability of their community through economic and community
development programs.
The Southern
Economic Development Council (SEDC) formulated this awards program for their
State association members to adapt and make it their own.
VEDA uses the same format as SEDC, and will submit
its eligible winners to SEDC to be considered by SEDC
for a southern states regional award. SEDC’s
winners will be chosen based on the accompanying
criteria and population categories. At its annual meeting
SEDC will recognize one winner from each of the five population
categories to receive a SEDC regional CEDA award

Nomination Form
Cardinal Award
Since 1988, VEDA has recognized deserving members’ leadership in the economic development field, outstanding professional accomplishments, and service to our organization through the Cardinal Award. With the addition of Keith Taylor and Terry Holzheimer in 2007, the total number of Cardinals is now 26.
Cardinal award winners serve on the Cardinal Council, established by the Board in 2005. The Council serves as a deliberative resource for the Board on an as-needed basis.
The Cardinal Award is not a yearly award but is given by VEDA as its most prestigious award. If merited, this award is usually presented at our Fall Conference in September/October. So, it is now time to move toward nominations of members, both past and present, who warrant this year’s recognition.
Please take the time to review the enclosed selection criteria (there are three) and complete the nomination form for persons you think meet them. The Cardinal Award Committee, consists of past award winners, the Vice President of VEDA whose responsibilities include awards, and the immediate Past President. The Committee will then review your nominations and, if merited, select the 2008 recipient(s).
As experienced in the past, those selected are deeply appreciative of the recognition by their peers.
In submitting a nomination, please note that it needs to be in VEDA hands by July 25, 2008. If you have any questions, please call me at 804-966-2830 or Connie Long at 757-412-2664.
We look forward to your nominations.
