The City of Hampton is seeking a motivated, self-starter, to manage and coordinate the Economic Development Department’s marketing initiatives to include advertising, public relations, media relations, website and research.
Minimum qualifications include a BA in Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field. Three years experience in marketing, public relations, or media relations, and experience in web site preparation and maintenance. One year experience in research and strong Internet usage skills is required. Some GIS experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to use computer software programs to generate presentations and reports; ability to produce news releases, brochures, marketing materials and other collateral materials. Knowledge of graphic design and ability to work with outside agencies as needed to produce materials. Ability to work well with the business news media in placing stories; ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others; ability to foster effective public relations and work effectively with diverse groups; ability to prepare and deliver speeches to various groups. Must possess a valid Virginia Motor Vehicle operator’s license and must have a satisfactory driver’s record based upon the City of Hampton’s criteria. Experience may substitute for education on the basis of one year of appropriate experience for each year of education.
