Hurricane Florence: Response Tools for Water Utilities from EPA's Water Security Division

As of yesterday, Hurricane Florence was located 975 miles east-southeast of Cape Fear, North Carolina and has rapidly intensified into a Category 4 major hurricane. Hurricane Florence will approach the coast of the Carolinas late Thursday afternoon with life-threatening storm surge, destructive winds and massive inland rainfall flooding in one of the strongest strikes on this part of the East Coast on record.

South and North Carolina Rural Water Associations along with their member utilities are currently preparing to takeaction and respond to the impacts of Hurricane Florence. EPA emailed this morning with a list of tools that can help water utilities respond to hazards such as flooding, high winds, and storm surge. For storm specific information for your area, pay attention to current watches and warnings issued by your local National Weather Service forecast office.
