This Week: Events & Activities

The US Patent and Trademark Office is holding an event in celebration of World IP Day- "Reach for the Gold: IP and Sports." Join a discussion at theUSPTO headquartersor vialivestreamwith former professional football player and entrepreneur Shawn Springs and Deputy Director of the USPTO Laura Peter. After the discussion, meet representatives from sports companies and groups at an interactive exhibition (Mon. 4/22 at 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, USPTO HQ, 600 Dulany St., Registration requested).

The public is invited to attend the Potomac Yard Metrorail Implementation Work Group (PYMIG) meeting, where the City will provide Potomac Yard Metrorail Station project updates (Mon. 4/22 at 7:00 - 9:00 PM, Charles Houston Rec Center, 901 Wythe St.).

City Council will jointly hold theirregular legislative meeting and a work session,which will include the Preliminary Add/Delete List Discussionof the budget. Items of interest for the legislative docket includeconsideration of a Resolution Authorizing the Issuance of Revenue and Refunding Bonds by the Industrial Development Authority of the City of Alexandria for theInstitute for Defense Analyses and consideration of a Resolution to Support the WMATA Platform Improvement Project Program Project Funding Request(Tues. 4/23 at 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Council Chambers, City Hall, 301 King St.).

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is hosting their 12th Annual Small Business and Government Conference. AEDP President and CEO, Stephanie Landrum, will be a guest speaker at the event to discuss opportunities forpublic and private sectors within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industries(Thurs. 4/25 at 9:00 - 10:30 AM, The Waterford at Springfield, 6715 Commerce St., Springfield, Registration required).

The Carlyle Design Review Board will hold a special meeting. Items of interest include the review of a proposal for Block 15 Office Building (Thurs. 4/25 at 7:00 - 9:00 PM, Chet and Sabra Avery Conference Room 2000, City Hall, 301 King St.).

The City will host an Eisenhower East SAP Update community open house to provide an overview of the planning process and the topics and updates to the Plan that will be considered. Members of the community are invited to stop by at any time during the open house to learn about the process, ask questions, and provide feedback(Thurs., 4/25 at 7:00 - 9:00 PM, Location TBD).

Join the City of Alexandria for the Seventh Annual Building Safety Month Kick-Off Event(Fri., 4/26 at 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Market Square, 301 King St.).

Celebrate the 26th Annual Alexandria Earth Day with educational exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities for all ages. Youth will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity and commitment to the environment through this year's theme "Climate Change - Take Action." Additional activities include Arbor Day tree planting, the Ellen Pickering Award and food sales(Sat., 4/27 at 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Lenny Harris Memorial Fields at Braddock Park, adjacent to George Washington Middle School).
