Manassas Happy Hour

The City is excited to announce the roll out of "Manassas Happy Hour" in Historic Downtown on September 6th, 2019, which coincidentally happens to be First Friday.Hosted by Historic Manassas, Inc. and the City of Manassas, this First Friday will be the first time participants are able to walk freely from a restaurant where they purchased an alcoholic beverage to enjoy other First Friday festivities.

The City of Manassas is one of the first localities to use the new permit from the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority. The permit allows a locality up to 12 events a year to permit the consumption of alcoholic beverages within a designated area for a special event. Establishments can sell beverages in a specific plastic cup which can then be carried around the event so that participants can enjoy the entire event footprint, including visiting shops and boutiques. Signs will mark the event boundaries. Our events are all intended to promote a family friendly atmosphere so obviously certain limits and restrictions apply to where alcoholic beverages can be consumed.

Tourism is a major driver of the local economy in Manassas and the City has become widely recognized for its many festivals and special events, like First Friday. This past year more than 450,000 residents and visitors attended an event or visited one of the many attractions in Historic Downtown. Manassas Happy Hour is sure to become a crowd favorite and further reinforce the appeal and infectious energy of Historic Downtown.

Manassas City Public Schools

School is back in session. And that means it's time for learning...and partnering.

Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) has nine fully-accredited schools, which includes five elementary, three intermediate and one high school. Osbourn High School is the first Governor's STEM (Science, Technology, and Engineering & Math) Academy in the region and a GRAMMY Signature School in music education. U.S. News and World Report identified it as a Silver Medal School in 2016 placing it in the top 16 percent of Virginia high schools. Additionally, MCPS proudly offers its nearly 8,000 students the region's only integrated math and science curriculum, a nationally acclaimed arts program and Career Technical Education (CTE).

The CTE program includes opportunities for students to explore career goals prior to graduating from high school. Every year, these programs evolve and it is the City's mission to provide students with the necessary skills to compete and excel in their future careers-but we can't do that without partners in the business community.

As incubators for the next generation of workers, the business community has a vested interest in the success of our public schools. Partnerships are critical not only for curriculum development but also serve as an opportunity to raise awareness by students of potential career pathways. Whether it is through an internship, job shadowing and apprenticeships there are a variety of ways for businesses to engage with public schools and positively impact our future workforce.
