This Week: Events & Activities

Plan to spend some time in the Carlyle neighborhood this week for the Carlyle-specific Restaurant Week. Find participating restaurants and their menus on the website. This event is sponsored by the Carlyle Vitality Initiative(Mon. - Fri., 11/11-15, restaurants throughout Carlyle).

City Council will hold their regularly scheduledlegislative meeting.Items of interest include a Joint Worksession with the Planning Commission to discuss (1) North Potomac Yard /Virginia Tech Innovation Campus submissions, and (2) City Council Expectations for Planning Commission Actions, Roles and Advisory Activities and Consideration of a Resolution to Establish FY 2021 Budget Guidance(Tues., 11/12 at 7:00 PM, Council Chamber, City Hall, 301 King St.).

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce will hold a Board Meeting(Weds., 11/13 at 8:00 AM).

The Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC) is hosting an opportunity showcase. Opportunity abounds on Richmond Highway! Learn about new development, redevelopment and business opportunities and economic incentives in this revitalization district. Three panels will discuss regional economic drivers, greater Richmond Highway demographics, and new financial incentives for new development on Richmond Highway.Stephanie Landrum, AEDP President & CEO, will be one of the speakers at the event(Thurs., 11/14 at 7:30 - 10:30 AM, Belle Haven Country Club, 6023 Fort Hunt Rd., Registration required).

The City will hold a public meeting focusing on the North Potomac Yard Phase 1 Development(Thurs., 11/14 at 7:00 - 9:00 PM, National Industries for the Blind, 3000 Potomac Ave. [second floor meeting room]).

At the City's request, Pentagon officials will hold a community meeting to provide information and answer questions about the Pentagon's plans to screen incoming mail and other deliveries at the Department of Defense's Mark Center Building in Alexandria(Thurs., 11/14 at 7:00 - 9:00 PM, Francis C. Hammond Middle School, 4646 Seminary Road).

The GO Northern Virginia Council invites your input and participation in defining potential GO Virginia projects for funding in 2020. GO Virginia can help fill the gap between High Tech Jobs and the available High Tech Workforce in Northern Virginia through grants for innovative projects.

That's why we are asking you to attend one of three GO Northern VA Town Hall meetings scheduled for November. These 3-hour sessions will provide the GO Northern Virginia Council with new ideas for project development in two specific areas - (1) Accelerating the Development of Growth Companies and (2) Enhancing Technology Transfer and Commercialization from Research Centers and Institutions
