This Month in Strome

A research paper authored by Walter D'Lima, Assistant Professor of Finance, was accepted into the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics. This is the top ranked real estate A level journal and the real estate academic association's journal. This is his third publication in A level top ranked RE journals since joining ODU in 2018.

This paper finds that individual investors outperformed the market and exhibit timing ability. In addition, real estate investors earn larger returns if they live near the investment property, buy without a mortgage, and have experience in real estate investing. Overall, the paperhighlights the risk and returns of residential real estate investments by retail investors.

The paper is available here:

If you missed this year's Real Estate Market Review and Forecast, check out the 2020 Market Review Report, Podcasts or Presentations.

Each of our presenters provided an overview of 2019 and for most markets this included very positive news and growth. The forecasts for the upcoming year were prefaced with impending COVID-19 caveats.

The E.V. Williams Center for Real Estate at the Harvey Lindsay School of Real Estate thanks all of the speakers for their time and research contributions, making this year's Silver Anniversary a great success. Additionally, thank you to each of the sponsors for continuing your support of the annual market review.
