For the communities we serve as economic developers, there is no doubt we are in uncharted territory. The spread of novel coronavirus COVID-19 has impacted the Commonwealth and the businesses we serve in ways we couldn’t have imagined.

What we can imagine, though, is the other side of this crisis.

What we can imagine is how to support each other.

What we can imagine is coming together as professional economic developers to find ways to help lift our communities and businesses, our friends and neighbors, out of challenging times.

What we can imagine is charting a way forward.

Now more than ever our communities need the leadership and knowledge of professional economic developers.

And that is what the Virginia Economic Developers Association can provide.

Please bookmark this page. Share it. Use it.

We will be sharing the resources you can use and share with your communities here in real time. You can share too! Here’s how: Click on the Forum link on this page (be sure to login as a member) and post your news, information, resources, and best practices. Instructions for Forum Users.

In the coming days and weeks, we will also be working to share some best practices and stories of the innovative ways businesses are addressing today’s crisis in hopes that it provides hope and ideas for others.

Thank you for your leadership as professional economic developers in your communities.

Together we will get through this. Together we will rebuild the losses our businesses, communities, regions and state have faced.

Together we will chart a way ahead.

Stay strong.

The Business Retention Expansion COVID-19 Business Impact Assessment
SEDC is pleased to be a founding member of the Response Network Steering Committee and encourages our members to conduct this critical survey to help measure the impact of COVID-19 on existing businesses.  Information gathered will help provide valuable data to decision-makers in government and position your organization as a leader and champion to assist local business.

The following CoviD-19 Business Impact Survey was developed by 25 volunteer economic development professionals who came together to meet the need for concrete information on the human and economic impacts being felt by companies in the communities we represent.

Thanks to all of the members of the Steering Committee that helped shape this survey instrument, especially the Institute of Decision Making, The University of Northern Iowa.
