5.18.20 Economic and Revenue Update by Aubrey L. Layne, Secretary of Finance, Commonwealth of Virginia

For the communities we serve as economic developers, there is no doubt we are in uncharted territory. The spread of novel coronavirus COVID-19 has impacted the Commonwealth and the businesses we serve in ways we couldn’t have imagined.

What we can imagine, though, is the other side of this crisis.

What we can imagine is how to support each other.

What we can imagine is coming together as professional economic developers to find ways to help lift our communities and businesses, our friends and neighbors, out of challenging times.

What we can imagine is charting a way forward.

Now more than ever our communities need the leadership and knowledge of professional economic developers.

And that is what the Virginia Economic Developers Association can provide.

Please bookmark this page. Share it. Use it.

We will be sharing the resources you can use and share with your communities here in real time. You can share too! Here’s how: Click on the Forum link on this page (be sure to login as a member) and post your news, information, resources, and best practices. Instructions for Forum Users.

In the coming days and weeks, we will also be working to share some best practices and stories of the innovative ways businesses are addressing today’s crisis in hopes that it provides hope and ideas for others.

Thank you for your leadership as professional economic developers in your communities.

Together we will get through this. Together we will rebuild the losses our businesses, communities, regions and state have faced.

Together we will chart a way ahead.

Stay strong.

Council of Development Finance Agencies
Development finance has always been at the forefront of recovering from natural disasters and economic challenges. CDFA's new COVID-19 Resource Center is a collection of financing programs and resources to address disaster relief and recovery.

CDFA developed this COVID-19 Resource Center to serve as a central hub of everything the development finance world is doing to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19. The resource center includes a State Response Map, which has financing programs and related headlines for all 50 states, information on CDFA's Comprehensive Recovery Strategy, up-to-the-minute news, federal, state, and local resources, and more.

Pepper Hamilton LLP and Troutman Sanders LLP
As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread, Pepper Hamilton LLP and Troutman Sanders LLP have developed a dedicated Resource Center to guide clients through this unprecedented global health challenge. They will regularly update this page with COVID-19 news and developments, recommendations from leading health organizations, and tools that businesses can use free of charge.

They have also assembled a COVID-19 Task Force of Pepper Hamilton and Troutman Sanders attorneys who are available to help companies navigate this evolving public health crisis. They represent diverse practice areas and industries, across multiple geographies.

Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC)
SEDC’s "COVID-19 Resources for Businesses" page features links to federal agencies that will be assisting businesses, health-related links for up to date information from reliable sources, and some links to help us cope as individuals.

In addition, they have a section on information and programs from the 17 states in the SEDC region so you can see what other states are doing to assist businesses.
